It is surprising how often an owner is persuaded to have a new engine fitted, however, when, in fact, heavy oil consumption, piston slap and low oil pressure can be cured by an expenditure of quite a small sum— seldom exceeding £5 £10 -provided that the owner is prepared to carry out the necessary dismantling and assembly and to send the worn components to a specialist (inn for reconditioning or replacement. If the engine has not covered more than about 30,000 miles, careful consideration should be given to this project.
